Text chat creates a "chat room" where site visitors can interact in real-time. Based on the industry standard IRC protocol, the Lithium Chat component is a scalable, robust, web-based chat system that can be used to compliment a message board offering, provide an auditorium for special events, or aid in customer support. Many sites have turned to text chat to enhance their customer support services. Chat provides the interactivity of telephone support, but allows the support tech to interact with several customers at the same time, making each tech more efficient. In addition, text chat saves money because, unlike 800 numbers, there is no per-minute charge. All standard IRC features are supported, such as kick, ban, squelch, and emote. An optional chat teaser component runs on any web page and allows users who are surfing through to see what is going on in the chat room before joining.
The Lithium Web-Based Instant Messenger enables your community users to have private, one-to-one conversations without exposing their e-mail address or other personal information. The instant messenger can reside either inside just the message boards, or on a small area on every page of your site, allowing users to receive messages anywhere on the site. Since the client is web-based, there is nothing to download or install. The instant messenger greatly increases stickiness and return visits, as users must come back to your site and log-on to receive new messages. |
